Four suspects have been charged and approximately $100,000 in jewelry has been recovered following a failed robbery at a mall in the Town of Newmarket. Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit are continuing to search for one outstanding suspect.
On Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at 5:25 p.m., police received reports of a robbery at a jewelry store inside a mall in the area of Yonge Street and Davis Drive. It was reported that five masked suspects entered the store armed with hammers, smashed display cases and filled duffel bags with jewelry.
As the suspects fled, they were confronted by mall security. During the confrontation, an aerosol irritant was discharged toward security guards and the suspects left in a white Mercedes SUV. Officers quickly located the getaway vehicle which was heading southbound on Highway 404. The vehicle was stopped on Steeles Avenue, where the suspects attempted to flee on foot.
With the assistance from the Canine Unit and Air Support Unit, four of the five suspects were arrested. One suspect remains outstanding.
Further investigation revealed the vehicle used in the robbery had been stolen earlier in the morning during a home invasion in the City of Vaughan. At this time, it has not been determined whether the same suspects were involved in that incident.
