Convicted Toronto killer receives life sentence as court hears he briefly escaped after verdict

On the same night Ryan Andrews was found guilty in May for second-degree murder, police body camera shown at his sentencing hearing on Monday shows he briefly escaped police custody while being transferred back to the Toronto South Detention Centre.
According to the video, and the Crown, Andrews had removed one of his handcuffs and when the initial police wagon broke down during transport, he was being transferred to a new vehicle when he escaped. Officers gave chase on foot and eventually took him back into custody.
As Catherine McDonald explains, Andrews was sentenced to life in prison with a parole ineligibility of 11 years.
