A Mississauga man found guilty of kidnapping a teenage boy as retribution for his half-brother’s drug debt is about to be sentenced.

The Crown is asking for a 16-year sentence for Samir Abdelgadir, convicted of kidnapping a 14-year-old Toronto boy in March 2020 over a debt owed by the teen’s older half-brother.

In a victim impact statement read out in court, the teenage boy who was kidnapped wrote, “I thought I was going to die.”

The judge has yet to set a date for sentencing. Catherine McDonald has the story.
