A man who was convicted and then acquitted in the 1984 murder of a Winnipeg teenager has been charged with a sexual offence in Vancouver.

62-year-old Mark Edward Grant is facing four charges, including unlawful confinement and sexual assault with a weapon.

Grant was previously convicted of second-degree murder in the case of 13-year-old Candace Derksen, whose frozen body was found bound in a shed in January 1985, two months after she disappeared on her way home from school. Grant was acquitted of Derkson’s murder in a second trial in 2017, which was judge-only.

Rumina Daya reports.
