Community leaders have been warning for weeks of a failure to curb Surrey’s extortion violence epidemic could lead to people taking matters into their own hands and on Saturday morning that appears to have happened.
Kelly Banes lives nearby on Galway crescent and was surprised to learn police are investigating people in the targeted home for allegedly returning fire, “It was very terrifying. It still is.”
“We share everyone’s frustrations but that isn’t meant to condone vigilantism or taking up arms. You are putting yourself at risk and community members at risk,” Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton of the Surrey Police Service said.
Jordan Armstrong reports.
