15-year-old Nooran Rezayi was shot and killed by Longueuil police β and now the truth behind what happened is coming out.
Newly released videos from the familyβs legal team show that only 10 seconds passed between the police car arriving and the shots that killed Nooran. Officers pulled up fast, without lights or sirens, jumped out, pointed their guns, shouted βGet on the ground,β and fired two shots within three seconds.
No gun was ever recovered.
A blue kidsβ baseball bat handle was sticking out of Nooranβs backpack.
The family has filed a $2.2 million lawsuit against the Longueuil police and the two officers involved, arguing that police acted too fast and created the danger they claimed they feared.
Meanwhile, Nooranβs death has sparked massive public outrage across Longueuil and Montreal.
Two major marches were held:
A silent march near the spot where he was killed
A second protest outside Longueuil police headquarters
Hundreds of friends, family, activists, and community members demanded:
A public inquiry
Police body cameras
Real accountability and transparency from the BEI (Quebecβs police watchdog)
Better training and change in how officers interact with racialized youth
Parents say theyβre scared for their kids.
Young teens say they no longer trust police to protect them.
Community groups say this tragedy reflects systemic issues that must be addressed now.
At the same time, the BEI confirmed officers were responding to a 911 call about βmasked, armed individualsβ β but again, no weapon was ever found on Nooran.
Lawyers, activists, and residents say the police escalated the situation instead of calming it.
The speed.
The force.
The lack of bodycams.
The fatal outcome.
Nooran was loved β by friends, family, his community.
People say he deserved a chance to grow up.
This is everything we know so far about the death of Nooran Rezayi, and the movement rising in his name.
