I met up with my old friend Zia in Peshawar—a former military commander and firearms expert, the kind of man you’d want by your side when heading into uncertain territory. Together, we journeyed down the legendary Khyber Pass into Pakistan’s tribal belt—an area where outsiders are almost never allowed. These villages operate beyond government control, and checkpoints are run by tribes, not police. But with Zia’s connections and reputation, doors opened. What I saw inside was something few foreigners ever witness.
Along the way, we gained access to abandoned British bunkers—real relics from the colonial era, built over a century ago during the British Raj. Though they looked surprisingly intact, locals confirmed they were original, not modern reconstructions.
